An automatic door bottom, mortised mounted, with a silicone silicone bulb in an aluminum housing. Heavy Duty. A plunger at the hinge end pushes the seal down onto the floor as the door shuts, and lets it lift again as the door opens.
Why this rather than a door sweep
A sweep drags along the floor every time the door moves. An automatic door bottom only touches the floor when the door is closed, so it seals just as tightly without wearing the floor, catching on carpet, or making the door harder to push. On a door that opens hundreds of times a day, or over a finished floor you care about, that is the whole argument.
What to check before you order
The gap under your door. This unit drops 1/2". Measure the gap at its widest point — if the floor is uneven, measure where the gap is largest.
The mortise. It fits into a slot routed into the bottom of the door, so the door has to be prepped or prepped-able. Nothing shows once it is in.
Cut to length from the sizes listed. Fire rated — the fire label is available on request.
