The LH956 is a heavy duty swing clear continuous hinge in stainless steel, running the full height of the door on a pin and barrel action rather than on two or three separate hinges.
What swing clear means, and why you would want it
A swing clear hinge carries the door fully out of the opening when it swings back, instead of leaving the leaf sitting in the doorway taking up width. On a standard hinge the open door eats into the clear passage; on a swing clear hinge it does not. That is why they turn up on hospital and care-home corridors, where a bed or a wheelchair has to get through an opening that is only just wide enough.
Why continuous rather than butt hinges
A continuous hinge spreads the door's weight along the whole edge instead of concentrating it at two or three points. Nothing works loose at a single screw, and the door stays in alignment rather than dropping over the years — which is what makes it worth its price on a door that never stops moving. Stainless steel throughout, in a US32D finish.
What to check before you order
Confirm the height of your door and that the frame can take a full-height hinge. Swing clear geometry also changes how the door sits relative to the frame, so it is worth having an installer look at the opening before ordering rather than after.
If you do not need the door to clear the opening, a standard continuous hinge will cost less and carry the same weight.
