The LH816 is the heavy duty cast aluminum closer in the Embassy Series from Lawrence Hardware, specified for high-traffic commercial doors indoors and out — office entrances, school corridors, medical facilities, hotels and multi-family buildings. It is certified Grade 1 to ANSI/BHMA A156.4 past 2,000,000 cycles and rated for roughly 4,000 openings a day.

Why this one

The LH816 sits in the middle of the heavy duty range on purpose. It carries doors up to 200 lbs and up to 60 inches wide, which covers most commercial entrances, and its cast aluminum body will not corrode in salt air — the reason to choose it over the cast iron LH8016 on any coastal or poolside opening. Where the LH8016 buys you capacity, the LH816 buys you an aluminum body at a lower price.

What to check before you order

The door. Up to 200 lbs, up to 60 inches wide inside or 48 inches outside. Heavier or wider than that and you want the LH8016.

The frame. Regular arm, top jamb and parallel arm hardware all ship in the box. Check your door stop clearance before choosing which one to use.

The closing force. Spring power #1 through #6 is adjustable at installation, not preset at the factory. It has to be dialed to the door, and to the ADA limit if the opening must be accessible.

Good to know

This closer does not hold the door open by itself — that needs the separate hold-open arm. Sweep speed, latch speed, backcheck and delayed action all adjust after mounting.

The LH816 shares the Norton 8501 footprint. Step up to the LH8016 for a heavier door, or down to the LH5016 for moderate traffic.

Heavy Duty — High-traffic Interior and Exterior Doors. This performance-tested and ANSI/BHMA certified, Grade 1 Door Closer is designed for heavy duty commercial applications for indoor and perimeter use such as Schools, Government Buildings, Interiors, Medical Facilities, Hospitals, Libraries, Hotels, Airports, Multi-Family Buildings, Condos and other public buildings. Grade 1 is the highest standard achievable for Door Closers. It will easily handle 4,000 openings per day, providing smooth, reliable use for many years to come.

How does the installation process work for the LH816?
Mount the closer body to the door using the included screws and template. The LH816 supports regular arm, top-jamb, and parallel-arm mounting — installation hardware for all three mounts is included. Connect the arm assembly to the door frame bracket, then adjust closing speed, latch speed, and (where applicable) backcheck using the included wrench. Most installations take 30-45 minutes.
What size door does the LH816 fit?
The LH816 is rated for doors up to 48 in. wide and 200 lbs. This makes it suitable for heavy duty applications. For larger doors, see our heavier-duty models.
Is the LH816 ANSI Grade 1?
Yes — the LH816 meets ANSI/BHMA A156.4 Grade 1. It has been third-party tested per BHMA standards and certified for commercial use.
What products does the LH816 compare to?
The LH816 is engineered as a direct functional and footprint replacement for: Norton 8501 · LCN 1461 · Sargent 1431. In many cases the existing mounting holes will line up with no re-drilling required.
Is it ADA compliant?
Yes. The LH816 can be adjusted to meet ADA opening-force requirements (5 lbs maximum for interior doors). Adjustment screws are accessible on the closer body — no disassembly required.
What finishes are available?
The LH816 ships in multiple finishes — see the swatches above. The most common are Aluminum (AL), Dark Bronze (DU/690), Painted Brass (PB), Matte Black (US19), and Polished Chrome (US26). All are powder-coated for long-term corrosion resistance.
