Key specifications
- Cast Iron Body — the reason this one is rated extra heavy duty while most closers are cast aluminum
- ANSI/BHMA A156.4 Grade 1 — the highest quality rating available for door hardware
- Tested past 2,000,000 cycles — third-party testing found it performing like new
- Carries doors up to 250 lbs, 60" interior or 48" exterior — measure the door before ordering
- Power Size #1-6 Adjustable — dial the closing force to the door and the traffic it sees
- Fully Adjustable — tune the whole cycle, including power level, sweep speed, latch speed, backcheck and delayed action
- ADA capable and UL listed as Fire Rated — set the closing force to the ADA level after installing

About the brand
Lawrence Hardware
Lawrence Hardware has manufactured commercial door hardware since 1876. Its hardware is certified or built to ANSI/BHMA standards. Trusted by contractors, builders, and architects across North America for nearly 150 years.
The LH8016 is the extra heavy duty closer at the top of the Embassy Series from Lawrence Hardware, built for openings that cannot afford a failure: school corridors, hospital entrances, stadium gates and industrial doors. It is certified Grade 1 to ANSI/BHMA A156.4 past 2,000,000 cycles and rated for roughly 5,000 openings a day.
Why the cast iron body matters
Almost every surface-mounted closer in this class has a cast aluminum body. The LH8016 uses cast iron, and that is the reason to choose it. The heavier casting is what earns the extra heavy duty rating and the higher capacity — 250 lbs of door, against 200 lbs for the cast aluminum LH816.
What to check before you order
The door. Up to 250 lbs, and up to 60 inches wide inside or 48 inches outside. Measure the door before ordering — an exterior door wider than 48 inches needs a different solution.
The frame. Regular arm, top jamb and parallel arm hardware all ship in the box, so it fits nearly any frame. Check the clearance at your door stop first.
The closing force. Spring power #1 through #6 is set during installation, not at the factory. Whoever fits it has to dial the force to the door — and to the ADA limit if the opening has to be accessible.
Good to know
Cast iron corrodes in salt air, so for a coastal opening choose the aluminum LH816 instead. This closer does not hold the door open on its own; that takes the separate LH8016 hold-open arm. Sweep speed, latch speed, backcheck and delayed action all adjust after mounting.
The LH8016 shares the footprint of the LCN 4040XP and 4041, so it often drops onto an existing installation. For a lighter door or gentler traffic, the LH816 or LH5016 cost less.
