The LH503 is the medium duty closer in the Embassy Series from Lawrence Hardware, made for residential entrances, apartment doors, light commercial offices and utility rooms — doors that get used all day, every day. It is certified Grade 2 to ANSI/BHMA A156.4 and tested to 1,000,000 cycles and carries doors up to 125 lbs and 48 in. wide.

Why this one

It is the most popular closer we sell in the fixed-power range, and the reason is balance: 125 lbs of door capacity and a backcheck, at a power size light enough that the door is still easy to open. The backcheck is what protects the door and frame when someone shoves it open into a wall.

What to check before you order

The closing force is fixed. This closer is set at the factory to power size #3 and cannot be adjusted up or down after it is installed. That is what keeps it simple and affordable, and it is the one thing to get right before ordering: size #3 is the standard choice for an interior or entry door in a sheltered position. If the doorway is drafty or the door is weather-exposed, the LH534 gives you more force at size #4.

Latch speed and sweep speed are adjustable after mounting; the spring force is not. Backcheck is built in.

How does the installation process work for the LH503?
Mount the closer body to the door using the included screws and template. The LH503 supports regular arm, top-jamb, and parallel-arm mounting — installation hardware for all three mounts is included. Connect the arm assembly to the door frame bracket, then adjust closing speed, latch speed, and (where applicable) backcheck using the included wrench. Most installations take 30-45 minutes.
What size door does the LH503 fit?
The LH503 is rated for doors up to 42 in. wide and 150 lbs. This makes it suitable for medium duty applications. For larger doors, see our heavier-duty models.
Is the LH503 ANSI Grade 1?
Yes — the LH503 meets ANSI/BHMA A156.4 Grade 2. It has been third-party tested per BHMA standards and certified for commercial use.
What products does the LH503 compare to?
The LH503 is engineered as a direct functional and footprint replacement for: LCN 1250 · Norton 1601 · Yale 50. In many cases the existing mounting holes will line up with no re-drilling required.
Is it ADA compliant?
Yes. The LH503 can be adjusted to meet ADA opening-force requirements (5 lbs maximum for interior doors). Adjustment screws are accessible on the closer body — no disassembly required.

The LH503 ships in multiple finishes — see the swatches above. The most common are Aluminum (AL), Dark Bronze (DU/690), Painted Brass (PB), Matte Black (US19), and Polished Chrome (US26). All are powder-coated for long-term corrosion resistance.
